Catrin Hampton
After completing a degree in English Literature at the University of Birmingham, Catrin worked initially for a publishing company, writing and proofreading articles prior to printing. A slight change in direction was brought about with the opportunity of joining Christie's regional office in Cheltenham, which allowed an interest in art and antiques to develop into a career. By transferring four years later to Christie's head office at King Street in London, Catrin was able to get involved with the auction business at first hand, researching and cataloguing items for sale, proofreading and designing catalogues and telephone bidding at the sales, firstly for the Silver department and then 20th Century Decorative Arts.
The relocation of her husband's job in 2001 brought Catrin back to the Gloucestershire area and she joined Simon Chorley's team at Bruton Knowles as a Valuer and Cataloguer specialising in the skills brought from Christie's.
While maintaining a strong love of Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modernist design, she has spent the past five years learning to assess and appreciate Georgian, Regency and Victorian antiques and paintings.
She has transferred with the rest of the team to Simon Chorley Art & Antiques and enjoys the fact that every day at work is different, bringing her into contact with many beautiful and interesting objects and (mostly!) friendly people. Responsibilities of her new role include cataloguing and valuing 19th and early 20th Century Decorative Arts, managing clients of both sale and valuation disciplines, expanding opportunities in all areas of optimisation of client management.
